STEPS ACROSS THE BAHAMAS

Encouraging-Equipping-Empowering

Youth Care Services a non-profit corporation led by Jonathan C. Carey will launch a new initiative-Steps Across The Bahamas. This new initiative is scheduled to be launched nationally October 8, 2009 on Grand Bahama Island. Steps Across The Bahamas, a youth violence prevention and character development program will be presented to thirty Bahamian islands during a nine month span. The initiative is one of Encouraging-Equipping and Empowering youth and care givers.

In 1998 The Bahamas Government selected a National Crime Commission. It was during this serving as a commissioner that Jonathan started revamping his ministry and founded the CTC Network/Youth Care Services. The crime concerns in our country at that time are still relevant today.

One eye catching statement of the crime commission report read:

"We are reaping the rewards of our own inabilities, inattentiveness, incompetence and indiscipline," the report said, "the seeds of which were sown many years ago...Commissioners are left with the impression that most crimes, of all types, are the product of greed, not need."

"Steps Across The Bahamas" will provide The Bahamas with the Peaceful Partners and Steps 2 Success 4 Teens programs and the necessary training to implement them as a standalone program or as a component of an existing program.

Peaceful Partners is a Kindergarten through High School violence prevention curriculum based on the "life skills" or "social skills" approach to prevention. The lessons help students, schools and communities promote and maintain a non-violent, non-aggressive atmosphere, where peace is an active pursuit. Students will learn:

· To resolve conflict

· Cooperate and get along better with one another

· Prevent harassment and ways to respond to bully behavior

In addition and most importantly students will learn the importance of celebrating diversity and supporting inclusiveness.

Steps 2 Success 4 Teens

This book and the entire series were developed to provide steps for personal development for teens, in a workbook form.

The steps are taken from biblical characters reflecting part of their life's quest and challenges. It is hoped that the series will be welcomed not only by teens, but also by youth leaders, principals, administrators, teachers, and all those who are involved in youth development.

The series is ideal for use in schools, youth groups, camps, and juvenile facilities.

Joshua - Teaches how to be successful in your personal life. It presents biblical and practical steps for success. The six steps presented are Respond, Remove, Relocate,

Request, Require, and Respect.

Joseph and Esther - Teaches how to manage the tongue, anger, challenges, temporal things, people, and one's talents. It's a tool for effective conflict resolution and presents principles for personal and group success.

Beyond High School - Provides the necessary steps for securing enrollment in college or successful transition into a career.

It is designed in a journal format and outlines the success steps for each year a student invests in high school.

The program will be offered to parents, schools, churches, community clubs and sporting organizations
